April 1, 2006: Taylor 2nd at High School Nationals
Ashley Taylor competed at the 2006 USA Powerlifting High School National
Powerlifting Championships in Omaha, Nebraska on April 1, 2006.
Ashley competed in the 132 lb Freshman/Sophomore Girls Division. There were
teams from as
far as Texas to Pennsylvania at the meet.
Ashley's lifts included:
- Bench Press - 154.25 - 1st Place
- Squat - 248 - 2nd Place
(Personal Best)
- Deadlift - 264.5 - 3rd Place
- All-Around - 2nd Place Finish
in the 132 lb Fresh/Soph Division.

16, 2005: Ochs wins third consecutive USAPL National Champ
Jerry Ochs, of Aberdeen, South Dakota, won his third consecutive USAPL national
championship on Sunday, October 16, 2005, at the USAPL National Deadlift, Ironman,
and Squat Championships held in Aroura, Colorado.
Ochs entered and won all three championships; Squat, Deadlift, and "Ironman" (Bench
Press + Deadlift = "Ironman"), while competing in the M-6/165 lb. class.
He was the oldest competitor at the contest, and the only SD lifter entered.
Ochs has won national championships in 2003, 2004, and 2005, and was ranked #1
in the nation (USAPL) in his age group/weight class in '03' and '04. (Rankings
for 2005 will be released in January of 2006).

Taylor Breaks American Bench Press Record - SD Records Broke at Hawkeye Open
Sioux City, Iowa - Hawkeye Open
- Ashley Taylor of Sioux Falls, broke the American bench press record
in the 14-15yr. old 123lbs.
teen division. She lifted 160lbs. on her second attempt at
that weight. The old record
stood at 159.5lbs. She also lifted 236.75lbs. squat and 264.5lbs.
deadlift for a 661.25lbs. total, which were all state records
for her division.

Twelve year old Jordan Taylor
of Sioux Falls, set 4 state records at the same meet. His lifts
included 110lbs.squat, 66lbs. bench press,
148.75lbs. deadlift for a 325lbs. total. Congratulations Jordan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jay Trenhaile from Brookings, set records in the Master 40-44
Powerlifting division. His records included squat 402.25lbs.,
bench press 281lbs.,
total 1102.25lbs. Congrats Jay!!!!!!!!!! Veteran powerlifter
Jerry Ochs, Aberdeen, won his 16th concecutive "Gold" medal.
He competed in the M-6, 165lbs. class and had lifts of 303lbs.-squat,
214.5lbs.
- bench press, 303lbs.- deadlift for a 820.5lbs. total. Ochs
was ranked #1 in the nation, M-6 165lbs. in 2003 and 2004.
Robinson 4th
at Master Nationals
Larry Robinson of Pierre, SD placed
4th at the USAPL Master Powerlifting Nationals held in Palm Springs,
CA May 21, 2005. Fifty-two
year old Robinson's lifts included: Squat 407lbs., Bench Press
264.5lbs., Deadlift
501.5lbs. for a total of 1,173.75lbs. He set state records
in the M3 198lbs. class in squat, deadlift and total. That
total put him #10 on
the All-Time Master's List. Congratulations Larry!!!!!!!Meet

Blindauer places 4th at Men's National Powerlifting Meet
Jeff Blindauer
of Sioux Falls SD placed 4th in the nation at the USAPL Men's National
Powerlifting Meet held in Killeen TX May 6-8,
2005. Blindauer's lifts included: Squat - 556.5lbs., Bench
- 435.25lbs., Deadlift - 617.25lbs,
Total - 1609.25lbs. The 617.25lbs. deadlift was a personal

Pine Ridge
Team Places 2nd
On Saturday April 23, 2005 the Pine Ridge
High School Powerlifting Club traveled to the Nebraska State
Open Powerlifting meet held in Clarkson
NE. The club placed second as a team. Several lifters set state
records (see record sheet for details). Individual results
coming soon.
Prickett places 1st
Ann Prickett, from Vermillion, placed 1st in the
bench press at the Nebraska State Open Meet. She lifted 170.5lbs.
at the 148lbs. weight class.
SD Women place at Nationals
Four South Dakota lifters placed at Women's
Nationals in St. Louis, MO February 5th and 6th. Darla Merrival placed
8th in the 132lbs. class,
Katie Swenson brought home the championship in the 148lbs.
youth division, Katie Kneifl placed 2nd 132lbs. 14-15yr. old division
and Ashley Taylor
placed 2nd in the 123lbs. 14-15yr. old division. Congrats ladies.

SD Lifters on United States Top
20 lists
The USA Powerlfting released its Top 20 lists for 2004. Several area lifters
were on the list: Powerlifting Overall (in their respected divisions) - Jerry
Ochs 1st (powerlifting) - 1st (Iron man), Brenda Howard 1st, David Michaud 9th,
Andy Sherrill 5th, Jon Christensen 7th, Ryan Carter 6th, Tim Schepper 14th, Monte

Craig 3rd in American Open
Todd Craig of Rapid City placed 3rd in the American Open. The meet was held December
11, 2004 in King of Prussia, PA. He competed in the 181lbs. weight class. His
lifts included: 518lbs. squat (PR), 285lbs. bench press and 551lbs. deadlift
(PR), for a 1354lbs. total (PR). Congratulations Todd.
SD Team 2nd at Midwest Senior States
Congratulations to the eight lifters that went to Omaha, NE December 11, 2004
and brought home second place in the team title. Results are posted under "events" on
the home page. Members of the team were Ashley Taylor, Katie Kneifl, Kate Swenson,
Jeff Blindauer, Heath Fitzsimmons, Jona Leo, Joe Reiter and Brad Slining all

Schepper Takes "Best Lifter "
Congratulations to Tim Schepper, Rapid City powerlifter, on his great effort
at the "Dakota Open" Powerlifting Championships held on November 6,
2004, in Rapid City, SD. On his way to winning the meet "Over-all Best Lifter" award
in the contest, Tim had lifts of 522.5, 407, and 628.25 lbs., for a total of
1556.5!! Tim's 628.25 Lbs. in the Dead Lift set a new South Dakota USAPL State
record in the 220 Lb. class (Open), and his 628.25 DL + 1559.75 Lb. total were
State records in the Master's M-1, 220 weight class (age 40-44). |
